Mobile Suit Gundam 00 celebrates 20 years in 2027, a milestone for one of Gundam’s most memorable generations

Mobile Suit Gundam 00 will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2027, two decades since the series first aired in Japan on October 6, 2007.

The series arrived with a fresh take on Gundam, introducing a future set in the Anno Domini timeline and a story centered around Celestial Being’s intervention in global conflicts. It also brought a distinctive lineup of mobile suits that quickly became some of the most recognizable designs of its generation.

Gundam 00 stood out visually from the start. The mobile suit designs were created by a talented group of designers, including Kanetake Ebikawa, Takayuki Yanase, Naohiro Washio, Kenji Teraoka, Hitoshi Fukuchi, Seiichi Nakatanaka, and Kunio Okawara.

Among them, Kanetake Ebikawa’s designs became particularly closely associated with the series. The Gundam Exia, 00 Gundam, and other mobile suits introduced through Gundam 00 helped establish a design style that still feels distinct nearly 20 years later.

The series also grew beyond its original 2007 TV run. A second season followed in 2008, while Mobile Suit Gundam 00 the Movie: A Wakening of the Trailblazer arrived in 2010, giving the story a theatrical conclusion.

For GunPla fans, Gundam 00 has remained a major part of the lineup over the years. From High Grade and Master Grade releases to the Real Grade and MGEX lines, Bandai has continued to revisit its mobile suits in new formats.

That makes 2027 an especially interesting anniversary for GunPla fans.

There is currently no official announcement confirming a specific Gundam 00 20th anniversary project or GunPla lineup for 2027, so anything beyond the anniversary itself remains speculation. Still, the milestone has plenty of fans wondering what could come next.

An MGEX Gundam Exia would be an amazing dream release. The same could be said for an MGEX 00 Gundam, especially considering how much room the design has for a highly detailed interpretation of its GN Drive and equipment.

There are also plenty of other Gundam 00 mobile suits that could use another look through modern GunPla technology. The anniversary could be a perfect opportunity to revisit some fan favorites that have been waiting for a new kit.

Gundam 00 has already been part of the Gundam fandom for nearly two decades. With 2027 approaching, it will be interesting to see how Bandai chooses to celebrate one of the most distinctive Gundam series of the 2000s.
