After nine years in Odaiba, the life-size Unicorn Gundam statue has officially reached its final farewell.

The Final Ceremony was held at DiverCity Tokyo Plaza on August 29 at 7:30 p.m., just two days before the statue’s exhibition officially comes to an end on August 31. The event was also livestreamed through the official Gundam Channel, allowing fans around the world to watch the final ceremony.

For the Gundam Mk-II, that means much more than a few opening panels.

The high quality figure features a Full Maintenance Mode, where armor sections across the body can open to reveal the Gundam Mk-II's famous Movable Frame. The chest can jack upward to expose the spherical cockpit, while the leg armor opens to reveal an internal frame that can extend and retract. The thruster port frames even move along with the mechanism.

For fans who have visited the statue over the years, this one feels a little different. August 29 will not just be another Gundam event. It will be the final send-off for one of the franchise's most recognizable real-world landmarks.

The Unicorn Gundam may be leaving Odaiba, but at least it looks like it is getting one hell of a goodbye.

After War Gundam X is getting a new manga sequel, with After War Gundam X FLASH set to begin serialization in Japan later this month.

Created by Koichi Tokita, the new sequel side-story manga will debut in the October 2026 issue of Monthly Gundam Ace, scheduled to go on sale on August 26, 2026. Ahead of its serialization, a two-page spread from the first chapter has been revealed, offering fans an early look at the new story.

Set in the After War timeline, After War Gundam X FLASH will continue from After War Gundam X NEXT PROLOGUE "If I'm With You", the follow-up manga released in 2018. The new series will continue the journey of Garrod Ran and Tiffa Adill as their story moves forward.

The upcoming live-action Gundam movie will take place within the Universal Century timeline, according to star Noah Centineo.

Centineo recently appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, where he discussed the upcoming live-action adaptation.

During the interview, Centineo revealed that the film will be canon to Gundam's original anime universe and will take place within the Universal Century, the timeline centered around the conflict between the Earth Federation and the Principality of Zeon.

Tomino specifically pointed to CG, saying it has become a convenient tool that allows objects to be easily copied or moved. He feels some anime and films focus too heavily on showing off CG simply because it was created, rather than using it to support the story.

The timing is especially interesting with Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM ZERO on the horizon. The upcoming project will explore events leading up to the theatrical release of SEED FREEDOM, offering fans another reason to revisit the Cosmic Era as the original Gundam SEED celebrates its 25th anniversary.

The series arrived with a fresh take on Gundam, introducing a future set in the Anno Domini timeline and a story centered around Celestial Being’s intervention in global conflicts. It also brought a distinctive lineup of mobile suits that quickly became some of the most recognizable designs of its generation.
