The Life-Sized Unicorn Gundam’s Final Farewell Will Be Livestreamed With Hiroyuki Sawano and SennaRin

After nearly nine years watching over Odaiba, the life-sized RX-0 Unicorn Gundam statue is preparing for its final farewell.

The “Life-Sized Unicorn Gundam Statue Final Ceremony” will take place on August 29 at 7:30 p.m. JST and will be livestreamed on the official YouTube Gundam Channel. The event comes just two days before the statue’s exhibition officially concludes on August 31.

And yes, they are sending it off with some serious music.

Hiroyuki Sawano, whose music has become inseparable from Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn and later Gundam projects including Mobile Suit Gundam Narrative and Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway, will take part in a special live performance alongside SennaRin. Fans may recognize SennaRin for her work on Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe.

The ceremony will also feature the special presentation “UNICORN GUNDAM Statue ― BEYOND POSSIBILITY ―,” which has been running for a limited 10-day period beginning August 22.

The life-sized Unicorn Gundam statue first became one of Odaiba's biggest Gundam landmarks when it replaced the life-sized RX-78-2 Gundam statue in 2017. Since then, fans have watched it transform between Unicorn Mode and Destroy Mode, light up against the Tokyo night, and become an essential stop for Gundam fans visiting Japan.

Now, after nearly a decade, its time at DiverCity Tokyo Plaza is coming to an end.

The final ceremony will be hosted by voice actor Genki Okawa, while commemorative merchandise celebrating the conclusion of the exhibition is also scheduled to arrive. Among them is the Mega Size Model 1/48 The Gundam Base Limited RX-0 Unicorn Gundam Ver. TWC FINAL, offering GunPla builders one more way to remember the giant mobile suit that has towered over Odaiba since 2017.

For fans who have visited the statue over the years, this one feels a little different. August 29 will not just be another Gundam event. It will be the final send-off for one of the franchise's most recognizable real-world landmarks.

The Unicorn Gundam may be leaving Odaiba, but at least it looks like it is getting one hell of a goodbye.
