Wing Gundam Flies Into Traditional Japanese Art With a Special Ukiyo-e Package
The Wing Gundam is taking a trip back in time, at least on its box.
Bandai Hobby is releasing the ENTRY GRADE 1/144 Wing Gundam [Ukiyo-e Package Ver.] on August 29, 2026. The special edition gives the popular Gunpla a newly designed package inspired by ukiyo-e, Japan's traditional woodblock print art, along with a sheet of Japanese-style stickers.
For Gundam Wing fans, the Wing Gundam hardly needs an introduction. The mobile suit made its debut in Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, piloted by Heero Yuy, and became one of the series' most recognizable designs. Armed with its massive Buster Rifle and capable of transforming into its bird-like Neo Bird Mode, the Wing Gundam remains one of the defining mobile suits of the 1990s Gundam era.
This special release gives that familiar design a distinctly Japanese presentation.
Ukiyo-e is a traditional Japanese art form that flourished during the Edo period and is best known for its woodblock prints. The style became famous for its bold outlines, dramatic compositions, and colorful depictions of landscapes, actors, everyday life, and more. Even people who do not know the name ukiyo-e have probably seen one of its most famous works, Hokusai's The Great Wave off Kanagawa.
Now, the Wing Gundam joins the RX-78-2 Gundam and Strike Gundam in receiving its own ukiyo-e-inspired package, pairing one of Gundam's most famous mobile suits with one of Japan's most recognizable artistic styles.
The kit inside remains the beginner-friendly ENTRY GRADE 1/144 Wing Gundam, designed to be assembled with a relatively small number of parts while still delivering impressive articulation and color separation. Thanks to the touch-gate system, parts can also be removed by hand without requiring nippers.
The Wing Gundam's Buster Rifle and Shield are included, along with the new Japanese-style sticker sheet that accompanies this special package edition.
At 1,760 yen, the ENTRY GRADE 1/144 Wing Gundam [Ukiyo-e Package Ver.] is an interesting option for collectors who want a little more personality on their shelf, or even just in their Gunpla box collection. Because honestly, with artwork like this, throwing the packaging away might be the hardest part.
