Exceed Model Trinity RX-78-2 Gundam Arrives as a 20cm Light-Up Bust

Bandai has opened reservations for a special Gashapon Online version of the EXCEED MODEL TRINITY RX-78-2 Gundam, featuring additional cable and lighting units.

Unlike the regular capsule version arriving in Japan, this version is available exclusively through Gashapon Online and costs 1,850 yen per random item, including tax. There are three different types in the lineup, and each purchase gives you one of them at random.

The three types are the Exterior + Cable Unit, Internal Structure + Headlight Unit, and Core Fighter & Cockpit + Cockpit Light Unit. Each has an approximately 33.33% chance of being selected, with the Exterior + Cable Unit listed at 33.4%.

The three components can be combined to recreate a large RX-78-2 Gundam bust measuring approximately 20cm tall. Each individual component measures approximately 120 to 150mm.

The Exterior reveals the Gundam's outer armor, while the Internal Structure displays the mechanical framework underneath. The Core Fighter & Cockpit component completes the center section and includes its own cockpit details.

The additional cable and light units are what distinguish this Gashapon Online version from the regular capsule release. Once the components are collected and assembled, the lighting features can be used to add illuminated details to the RX-78-2 Gundam.

The EXCEED MODEL TRINITY series also uses a capsule-less format, with the large 90mm components designed to become part of the finished display rather than simply serving as packaging.

Reservations for the Gashapon Online version began on August 31, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. JST. The reservation period is scheduled to run until September 10 at 11:59 p.m. JST, or earlier if the limited quantity sells out. Shipping is scheduled for late October 2026.

A separate regular capsule version of the EXCEED MODEL TRINITY RX-78-2 Gundam will also be released in Japan from September 2026. It costs 1,500 yen per random item and includes the same three main components without the additional cable and lighting units.

For collectors looking to complete the full 20cm RX-78-2 Gundam, the Gashapon Online version adds another layer to the hunt. You will need to collect all three randomly distributed components to complete the bust and take advantage of its additional lighting features.
