Gundam's 50th anniversary celebration is getting a whole lot bigger.

Bandai Namco has announced that ticket lottery sales for GUNDAM-Con 2027 SIDE MAKUHARI will begin on August 28, 2026, giving fans their first opportunity to secure admission to the Gundam 50th anniversary celebration.

The three-day event will be held at Makuhari Messe in Chiba from January 9 to January 11, 2027, with Gundam GunPla, games, cards, figures, anime, creator events and exhibitions planned throughout the venue.

There is also some good news for fans hoping to attend.

Following the initial announcement, GUNDAM-Con 2027 SIDE MAKUHARI has been expanded to Makuhari Messe Halls 1-3 after Bandai Namco received an overwhelming response from Gundam fans.

That's a pretty serious upgrade for an event celebrating 50 years of Gundam.

Three Days of Gundam at Makuhari Messe

GUNDAM-Con 2027 SIDE MAKUHARI will run from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with last admission at 7:30 p.m., across all three days.

The event is being built around the idea of creating the celebration together with Gundam fans. The planned lineup covers everything from creator autograph sessions and stage events to exhibitions, merchandise and hands-on activities.

The event will also bring several Gundam-related world tournaments together at the same venue. Plastic model, card and game competitions that have previously been held separately will all gather at Makuhari Messe for the anniversary celebration.

For fans who have spent years following Gundam, this could get very dangerous for the wallet.

Ticket Lottery Begins August 28

Admission is by advance lottery, with a separate ticket required for each day.

Tickets are priced at 5,000 yen for adults aged 16 and over and 3,000 yen for elementary and junior high school students, including tax. Preschool children can enter free of charge, with one preschool child allowed per guardian aged 18 or older who has a valid admission ticket.

Additional system and ticketing fees will apply.

The first lottery runs from August 28 through September 6, 2026, with results announced on September 15.

A second lottery will run from October 2 through October 12, with results announced October 20. The third and final scheduled lottery will run from October 30 through November 8, with results announced November 17.

The ticket application page will be made available at a later date.

A Bandai Namco ID is required to apply, and applicants can specify their preferred date and time with up to three choices.

Gundam SEED FREEDOM ZERO, RG Project and More

The stage lineup is already giving fans plenty to look forward to.

The planned talk stages include Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM ZERO, the RG Project, the Gundam GWX 30th Anniversary Project finale, home console Gundam games and a special SD Gundam G Generation Eternal stage.

There will also be tournament stages, including the GUNDAM CARD GAME 2on2 Team Battle at GUNDAM-Con.

More stage announcements are expected as the event gets closer.

A Giant Gundam Playground

The exhibition area is going to cover a lot of ground.

The GunPla booth will feature the latest GunPla displays along with a chance to try GUNDAM ASSEMBLE, while the TAMASHII NATIONS booth will showcase the latest completed figures.

Fans can also try the latest games and participate in trial sessions at the Gundam Card Game, Mobile Suit Gundam Arsenal Base, Bandai Namco Entertainment and Bandai Namco Experience booths.

The SUNRISE booth is also preparing creator-related projects.

And then there is the merchandise.

GUNDAM-Con will have exclusive event items, pre-sale products and the latest Gundam releases. Some merchandise will require a separate numbered ticket in addition to the admission ticket.

Everyone Gets a Gundam-Con Shopping Bag

Visitors will also receive a special GUNDAM-Con shopper bag featuring the event's concept visual.

The oversized bag measures 500 × 400 × 150 mm, which should come in handy once the shopping begins. There are also plans for various sampling items to be handed out at the event.

Because apparently attending a Gundam event without leaving with something you didn't plan to buy would be too easy.

Fans Can Leave Their Mark on GUNDAM-Con

The organizers are also asking fans to contribute messages that could be incorporated into the event itself.

A Fan Message Recruitment project is planned, with submitted messages potentially appearing in venue decorations and other parts of GUNDAM-Con. More information on how to participate will be announced later.

That fits perfectly with the event's idea of creating the celebration together with fans. After five decades, there are a lot of Gundam stories, memories and personal connections to bring into one place.

And GUNDAM-Con is clearly aiming to make room for all of them.

The Road to Gundam's 50th Anniversary Begins

GUNDAM-Con 2027 SIDE MAKUHARI is shaping up to be a massive gathering for Gundam fans, with GunPla, games, cards, figures, anime, creators and competitions all coming together at Makuhari Messe.

The first ticket lottery begins August 28, 2026, so fans planning to make the trip to Japan for the 50th anniversary celebration will want to keep that date in mind.

More information on creator autograph sessions, stage programs, merchandise, exhibitions and additional activities will be announced in the coming months.

GUNDAM-Con 2027 SIDE MAKUHARI will be held at Makuhari Messe Halls 1-3 from January 9 to January 11, 2027.
