Gundam Mk-II Is Taken Apart With a Massive New METAL STRUCTURE KAITAI-SHOU-KI Release
The RX-178 Gundam Mk-II (AEUG specification) is joining the METAL STRUCTURE KAITAI-SHOU-KI series as one of the most detailed versions of the iconic Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam mobile suit yet.
Standing approximately 310mm tall, this enormous completed figure is made up of more than 2,500 parts using ABS, PVC, and die-cast metal. The KAITAI-SHOU-KI series takes a mobile suit apart and rebuilds it with an incredible level of mechanical detail, allowing fans to explore the structures normally hidden beneath the armor.
For the Gundam Mk-II, that means much more than a few opening panels.
The high quality figure features a Full Maintenance Mode, where armor sections across the body can open to reveal the Gundam Mk-II's famous Movable Frame. The chest can jack upward to expose the spherical cockpit, while the leg armor opens to reveal an internal frame that can extend and retract. The thruster port frames even move along with the mechanism.
There is also a High-Mobility Combat Mode, an original configuration created specifically for this KAITAI-SHOU-KI release. The backpack thrusters can be rearranged while armor panels across the mobile suit open to simulate heat dissipation during combat.
The display setup is almost a project of its own.
The included base features a central support column that can hold the Gundam Mk-II while articulated work arms on either side create the look of a mobile suit undergoing maintenance. Lighting gimmicks built into both the Gundam Mk-II and its base add to the hangar atmosphere, while included mini-figures give the huge 310mm mobile suit an even greater sense of scale.
Another setup uses catapult-inspired display parts to recreate launch scenes, giving collectors a completely different way to show off the Gundam Mk-II.
Of course, it also comes loaded with equipment. The set includes the Beam Rifle, Hyper Bazooka, Vulcan Pod System, Shield, spare E-packs, spare bazooka cartridge, and various beam effect parts. The Beam Rifle also includes special KAITAI-SHOU-KI gimmicks, allowing collectors to attach a launcher or create a short-barreled configuration.
Bandai has also added some clever nods to the Gundam Mk-II's story in Zeta Gundam. Parts of the armor reveal the mobile suit's original dark blue Titans colors underneath, while the shield features a painted-over Titans emblem. The shield can also be mounted directly to the chest using the shared connection system seen in the anime.
The METAL STRUCTURE KAITAI-SHOU-KI RX-178 Gundam Mk-II (AEUG specification) carries a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of 137,500 yen. Reservations open on August 27, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. JST, with the release scheduled for January 2027.
It is an enormous, expensive, and wildly detailed take on the Gundam Mk-II, packed with enough opening mechanisms, moving parts, lighting, and display options to keep collectors exploring it long after it comes out of the box.
