GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT DEVELOPERS REVEAL NEW DETAILS ON ENDGAME CONTENT
The developers behind GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT have revealed new details about the upcoming action game, including its combat system, mobile suit customization, multiplayer and endgame content.
The game is scheduled to launch on March 5, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam.
One of the main goals behind GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT is to make the game accessible to players who are unfamiliar with Gundam. The developers said the franchise's large number of existing anime series and other works can create a high barrier for new users.
The team chose an action-focused format centered around battles against enemies that are much larger than Gundam. The game features an original setting centered on humanity's conflict with the silicon-based life forms known as Apocalypse.
GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT and its accompanying animation are being developed as part of the RG Project. The developers explained that both share the same worldview, but their stories are independent. Players can experience either the game or animation without needing to experience the other first.
The game uses a photorealistic visual style. The developers said this approach was selected to appeal to global action gamers while highlighting the metallic textures of the mobile suits and the detailed appearance of the silicon life forms.
The developers also emphasized that the game retains key Gundam elements, including war, mobile suits and human drama. The story follows protagonist Rex as he develops into an ace pilot. Players will also experience cockpit sequences, briefings and catapult launches.
Combat focuses heavily on close-range action, although multiple weapon classes will be available. Long-range weapons are intended mainly as support options. The beam rifle can also be charged to level two, allowing it to penetrate enemies.
A major combat feature is the ability to destroy individual parts of giant Apocalypse enemies. Destroying specific parts can disable certain attacks, while regenerating parts can create opportunities to deal additional damage.
The developers explained that Apocalypse can regenerate by absorbing surrounding silicon. The regeneration mechanic is also part of the creature's design and combat behavior.
The team also addressed the Drake boss battle featured in the demo. The difficulty players had hitting the boss's chest weak point was caused by a hit detection bug. The developers said the issue has been fixed in the full version.
Mobile suit customization will include the head, torso, arms, legs and thrusters. Each part has different durability and statistics. Players can also craft weapons and parts using materials obtained by completing missions.
Players can also continue using their preferred weapons throughout the story. The developers confirmed that every weapon type can be used to clear the game, including the initial weapon if players choose to keep upgrading it.
After completing the main story, the game will include a three-player cooperative multiplayer mode as endgame content. Players can use their customized mobile suits while taking on powerful enemies together.
Additional high-difficulty content will also be available for solo players. The developers estimate around 10 hours of endgame content, with some sections taking internal testers several hours and dozens of attempts to complete.
The developers also confirmed that the mobile suits in GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT are original designs created specifically for the game. Previous Gundam mobile suits are not part of its lineup.
GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT is scheduled for release on March 5, 2027, with the game serving as one half of the RG Project alongside Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO.
